Awake times
| Q: | My daughter is now six weeks old and the book has been an invaluable tool for me. I have one question though. When reading about a baby’s awake time it refers to the awake time being from 60 – 80 minutes, does this include the time taken to feed or is it after a feed? I am breast feeding and this can take about 30 – 45 minutes in total including a nappy change so that would mean play time of about 15 – 30 minutes. Does this sound right? |
| A: | The awake time is the time from the moment your baby wakes until she should go down for the next sleep. During this short period of time, you need to fit in a feed, nappy change and playtime. As you point out, for little babies like yours, you don’t have much time for anything after the feed as small babies take so long to feed. But just being alive is enough stimulation for your baby and she can probably only deal with 5 minutes of stimulation before needing a break anyway. |
