3 Month old suddenly waking more at night
| Q: | Hi Meg I was at a chat you gave at wellness centre... Eva Lynn is 3 months old (1 March 08), and sleeps well through the night from 7.30 pm – 7 am since she was 6 wks. (I was one of those boastful moms) However she has started to wake at 5.30 am – is not even aware that she is awake and cries out. This has occurred the past three nights – I pop a dummy back in? Am I doing the wrong thing? Do I feed her – I don’t think so? She is a breast with a top up fed babe. Currently she fights the breast and wants to quickly get to the bottle as it’s an easier route and not so much PT for her I think? She eats a lot at night, just over 200ml, and weighs about 5.6 at the mo. She sleeps well during the day - Approx 4, 5 hrs during the day. Plse help as I’m not sure why the early am wake up call happens. Julia |
| A: | Hi Julia She is doing exactly what she should and is actually a very good baby! At between 3 and 6 months it is very common for babies to start to need a little sustenance at night. So my suggestion is to feed her in your bed or in the dark in her room and hope she falls back asleep so you can get a bit of shut eye. When she is ready for solids – be guided by your nurse, she will decrease the wakings again in time. Best wishes Meg |
